What is T Ball?

T Ball is a sport played by young players usually from ages 5 – 8 years of age.  Some t ball organization allow for younger players such as 3 or 4, but 5 typically is the age most kids start playing.  The t ball field is typically smaller than a standard baseball field.  There is a player at every base including pitchers mound, and usually 4 outfielders are used.   The name t ball comes from the fact that batters bat from a tee ball tee instead of a coach or player pitching the ball.  The ball is placed on top of the tee ball stand, where the batter will attempt to hit the ball.   In most cases there are no balls, walks or foul balls called. Kids get an opportunity to hit the ball off the t ball stand into play. Once accomplished the batter will then become a running and attempt to make it to first base before being thrown out.

The standard rules of baseball are usually modified for the game of t ball.  Standard t ball rules typically include: no stealing, one base on an overthrow, etc.  T ball is general used to teach young players how to play baseball, and the most leagues allow coaches to be on the field to assist players when needed.

T ball is adapted by just about every baseball organization and allows all types of players the opportunity to play t ball and learn the game. If you’re interested in learning more or would like to find a league to play in,  check out some of our help links below.
